Run, don't walk, to get breakfast/brunch here! So well-seasoned - every component of the buna bowl (i got chicken and they use breast and it is so tender). Sauce adds the perfect spiciness that you get to control! You won't be disappointed!

if you like ethiopian food this place is 10/10 - delicious flavors, mom&pop atmosphere but you can taste the heart. the injera is perfect. variety of spices, creamy and well balanced flavors, good size portions.

The coffee is Ethiopian and they serve very good coffee. There are few more in the area that we tried but this one was the best Ethiopian coffee house. Inside the ambiance is ok, but they have outdoor seating which is cute. They also have bunch of vegan and vegetarian lunch Ethiopian food options. We tried the rolls, they were really good. Definitely will be come back.

March 2023 UPDATED REVIEW: I still rave about this place all the time. The food is just so satisfying to me. From the variations of Ethiopian cuisine to the classic pastries you'd find at any good coffee shop, to the coffee itself. I really really love the Breakfast Bowl, as well as the Cinnamon Bun and, now, the Marble Cake Slice. Added additional photos. Very much recommend trying this place. Also, I've noticed the past few times that I've gone in the morning, the place is pretty filled: people reading books or working on laptops or chatting with others at tables inside. It's definitely a popular spot, and for good reason, I think. Original review: I rave about this place a lot to my coworkers. It's so delicious! If you like Ethiopian cuisine amd coffee shops, it's hard not to enjoy Buna Coffeehouse. I've been a few times before work and haven't ventured beyond my usual yet: the Breakfast Bowl, a Dark Roast Coffee to go, and a Cinnamon Bun. The Breakfast Bowl features Ethiopian style flavors, with a choice of meat (I get beef), grains, veggies, eggs, etc. It's absolutely delicious, hot, and fulfilling. I highly recommend it if you're hungry The Cinnamon Roll isn't baked there (I asked), but it was served to me hot and tasty. Wasn't overly sweet, and great to have after a Breakfast Bowl. It's also hard not to be tempted by their pastries, as they're displayed right at the counter and visible as soon as you walk in. Their drip coffee is self-serve at the end of the counter, with a choice between dark and medium. They brew it well and it tastes great. It's a coffee shop, too, remember, so you do have a wide array of options like Macchiato, Cappuccino, Espresso, etc. I'll have to try next time! They also sell some merch and other Ethiopian themed things like mugs, hats, shirts, etc. Also picked up some Injera chips last I visited which, if you haven't tried them, are ADDICTING! Chef's kiss. The people behind the counter are friendly and it usually takes about 10-15 minutes to receive my order. The shop itself is small, with only a few small tables inside for dining in and some tables outside on a patio. Overall, if you're stopping by and want great food and coffee, I highly recommend Buna!! 5/5 stars

so good while visiting DC! walked in and saw the fall menu at the front. we got pumpkin spice lattes (one with oat milk) and the hot honey breakfast wrap. REALLY good all around. i do wish the pumpkin spice latte was a little more pumpkin-y but i understand it’s a delicate balance and really easy to overdo it. the wrap was phenomenal. it had avocado that was perfectly ripe, and the hot honey was really tasty. perfect spice levels and nice n light/not too heavy. and it all came out within 10 minutes or so with coffees coming first. it was around 30-40 for two. they also have pastries!! some indoor and outdoor seating! i highly recommend :)

The best place around, really. Real food, freshly made, and well made, every time. The quality of their ingredients is very high and the coffee is delicious. Nice fenced outdoor patio which is safe for toddlers. The owners are so kind. Oh, and the coffee is actually notably cheaper here than any other cafe I've been to in Petworth. I don't know why because it's great coffee but I guess they know paying 5 for a basic cup of coffee is stupid. It's a great spot with good drinks, tasty food, clean, and nice people. Love it.

Simple spot for AMAZING Ethiopian breakfast. We were satisfied all day to walk around dc, but not uncomfortably full. The brunch platter is the way to go and a perfect thing to split. We sat outside in the morning November sun which made it so nice!

Their Lavender Mint Matcha is so freaking good!!! Dare I say the best matcha I’ve had in the city. My friend got their Sugar Cookie Latte and said it actually tasted like a sugar cookie! There was a lot of seating and a cozy atmosphere. I can’t wait to return here
